String Game 翻繩游戲

Mom: Im making a hat for you and your brother.

媽媽：我正在給你和弟弟做帽子。

Feel this yarn.

摸摸這個線。

Isnt it soft?

軟和吧？

Child: Its very soft.

寶寶：真軟和。

Do you have any extra I can play with?

有多余的能給我玩嗎？

Mom: Im sure I do.

媽媽：當然。

Look in that basket over there.

看看那邊那個籃子里。

How are you going to play with it?

你準備怎么拿它玩？

Child: My friend Sam taught me how to play cats cradle last week.

寶寶：上禮拜我的朋友山姆教我怎么玩貓的搖籃來著。

Cats cradle是string game-翻繩游戲的一種，相當于中文說的“雙人翻繩游戲”。

Have you ever played?

你玩過嗎？

Mom: Not since I was your age.

媽媽：你這么大之后就沒玩過了。

Remind me how.

提醒我一下怎么玩。

Child: Okay! First I need a long piece of string,

寶寶：好啊！首先我需要一根長繩，

and then Ill tie the two ends together.

然后把兩頭系在一起。

Here are some basic rules:

以下是基本規則：

We hand off the string every turn.

我們輪流持繩。

And we have to be careful not to drop it.

一定要小心別掉了。

Lets start with the yarn on your hands

先從你撐繩開始，

so I can show you where to grab it.

我教你從哪入手。

Mom: Okay. How do I hold it?

媽媽：好的。我怎么撐啊？

Child: Put one end of the loop around the back of one hand.

寶寶：把繩套的一端套在一只手的手背上。

Twist the loop in front of that palm,

把手心前面的圈轉一下，

then put your hand down.

然后把手穿過去。

Wrap the other end of string around the back of your other hand.

把繩兒的另一端繞在另一只手的手背上。

Mom: Wow. Thats tough.

媽媽：哇。真難。

Child: Were just getting started!

寶寶：我們才剛剛開始！

Now take one middle finger

現在伸出一個中指，

and slide it under the loop in front of your other hand.

伸到另一只手前面的圈下面。

Then do the same with your other middle finger.

然后另一個中指也一樣。

Mom: What is this shape called?

媽媽：這個圖案叫什么？

Child: The cats cradle!

寶寶：貓的搖籃！

我們在網上查到，雙人翻繩的起始圖案有一種說法叫“小山”，但是我們小時候沒聽說過這個名字。

Mom: Is that the whole game?

媽媽：這就完了嗎？

Child: No way!

寶寶：怎么會！

We have four shapes to make.

我們有四個圖案要做。

Now we turn the cats cradle into the soldiers bed.

現在咱們把貓的搖籃翻成士兵床。

中文里，這種圖案有一種說法叫方塊。

Mom: How do I do that?

媽媽：我需要怎么做？

Child: Ill show you.

寶寶：我給你演示一下。

Ill pinch the two Xs you made,

我捏住兩個叉子，

then pull them around to the outside and up through the center.

然后把它們從中間往上往外翻。

You pull your hands out,

你把手退出來，

and Ill stretch my hands open again.

然后我把手再撐開。

Mom: Pretty cool.

媽媽：很棒。

Whats next?

然后呢？

Child: Now you make the candles shape.

寶寶：現在你來翻蠟燭。

中文里，這個圖案有一種說法叫面條。

Pinch the two new Xs,

捏住這兩個新的叉子，

and pull them around to the outside and up through the center again.

然后再把它們從中間往上往外翻。

Mom: I pull out my hands?

媽媽：我把手退出來嗎？

Child: Yep! Ill make the strings tight.

寶寶：是的！我來把繩兒拉緊。

Look! Its two candles.

看！兩個蠟燭。

Mom: What shape comes next?

媽媽：下一個圖案是什么？

Child: The manger.

寶寶：牛槽。

中文里，這個圖案還有一種說法叫茅坑。

Its like an upside down cats cradle.

它像一個倒著的貓的搖籃。

You need your pinkies for this one.

這個需要用到小拇指。

Youll hook your pinkies under the two strings in the middle,

你要把兩個小拇指勾在中間兩根繩兒的下面，

but youll hook your right pinky under the left string

但是是右手小拇指勾左邊的繩兒，

and your left pinky under the right string.

左手小拇指勾右邊的繩兒。

Then you pull your pinkies out to the sides,

然后把小拇指扽到外面，

making two triangles.

成兩個三角形。

Now take your thumbs and pointer fingers

現在伸出大拇指和食指，

and put them down into the triangles and up into the center.

把它們伸進三角形里然后從中間穿上來。

Dont let go of your pinky strings!

小拇指不要松開！

Mom: Im trying not to,

媽媽：我爭取，

but this is tough.

不過挺難的。

Child: Im going to let go,

寶寶：我要松手了，

and you need to pull the strings tight again.

Now look! Its the cats cradle again.

Mom: Okay. Now what do I do?

Child: You can make the soldiers bed,

寶寶：你可以翻士兵床，

then I can make the candles,

然后我翻蠟燭，

then you can make the manger,

然后你翻牛槽，

then I can make the cats cradle,

然后我翻貓的搖籃，

and we can keep playing

咱們可以一直玩，

until one of us messes up.

直到咱們其中一個人翻壞了。

Mom: Lets go.
