媽媽：你今天想去沙盒里玩嗎？

The weather is perfect

天氣不錯，

and it looks quiet at the park.

公園里也很安靜。

Child: Yes. I can bring all my new trucks I got for my birthday!

寶寶：嗯。我要帶上我生日收到的所有新卡車！

Mom: You can!

媽媽：可以啊！

Grandma and Grandpa will be glad to know that you are playing with your new trucks.

爺爺奶奶知道你玩新卡車會很高興的。

Lets put them in this bag.

咱們把它們裝到這個包里。

? At the Park 在公園
Mom: Ill help you set them out.

媽媽：我幫你把它們拿出來擺好。

Can you tell me what each one does?

你能告訴我每輛都是干什么的嗎？

We call these kinds of trucks "construction vehicles".

我們管這些卡車叫做“工程車”。

Why dont you start with this one first?

你先說說這輛吧。

Child: I think this one is a bulldozer.

寶寶：我覺得這輛是推土機。

Bulldozer讀作 [?buld?uz?]。

Mom: How can you tell?

媽媽：你怎么知道的？

Child: It has a bucket with a blade at the end

寶寶：它后面有一個帶刀片的斗，

and is made to clear or push stuff away.

是用來清理或者把東西推走的。

Mom: How is the bulldozer different from this one over here?

媽媽：推土機和這邊這輛有什么區別？

Child: Thats the front loader.

寶寶：那是前端裝載機。

Its for moving dirt.

它是用來運土的。

It can scoop dirt into its bucket

它能把土鏟到斗里，

and move it to a different place.

然后運到別的地方。

It is also usually a little bit smaller.

它通常會稍微小一點兒。

Mom: What about that one over there?

媽媽：那邊那輛呢？

Child: This one is a dump truck.

寶寶：這是一輛翻斗車。

It has a huge bucket on the back

它的后面有一個巨大的斗，

to carry very large loads of dirt.

用來運大量的土。

It cant scoop any dirt into the back,

它不能把土鏟到后面，

but it can pour it all out.

但是它能把它都倒出去。

Mom: It sounds like the dump truck can also haul stuff to another construction site if they need it to.

媽媽：好像如果需要的話，翻斗車也能把東西運到另一個建筑工地。

三個表達"運"的詞：
(1) Move泛指各種運送方式、可以是抬，也可以是推。
(2) Carry指需要一定的力量，且必須離開地面。
(3) Haul屬于carry，且東西較重、運送距離較遠。

Child: What does "haul" mean?

寶寶：“搬運”是什么意思？

Mom: It means to carry a large load some distance.

媽媽：它的意思是遠距離運大量的貨物。

Child: Like I haul my school bag to school each day?

寶寶：就像我每天把書包搬運到學校嗎？

Mom: Yeah, kind of like that.

媽媽：對，差不多。

What about this one with two buckets?

這輛帶兩個斗的呢？

Child: Thats the backhoe.

寶寶：那是反鏟挖土機。

Grandpa also said we can call it a digger.

爺爺說還可以叫它小型挖掘機。

It can dig with its scoop in the back

它可以用后面的鏟子挖，

and it can move dirt with its bucket in the front.

還可以用前面的斗運土。

Look, the scoop is at the end of hydraulic arm.

看，鏟子在液壓臂的末端。

Hydraulic讀作 [hai?dr?:lik]。

Here, I can show you.

Construction workers can use it for digging trenches.

建筑工人可以用它挖溝。

Mom: Thanks for the demonstration.

媽媽：謝謝演示。

That looks a lot like an excavator.

它看起來很像挖掘機。

Excavator讀作 [eksk?,veit?]。

Child: They are similar,

寶寶：它們很像，

but the excavator is larger.

但是挖掘機更大。

It is better for demolition projects,

Mom: You know a lot about all these vehicles!

This is my favorite, the crane,

because it is so tall!

Child: Cranes can lift very heavy things and move them...

Whats the word Grandpa used?

Mom: Horizontally?

Is that what he said?

Child: Yes, thats it!

This one over here is the compactor.

那邊那輛是壓路機。

It packs dirt in nice and tight!

它把土壓緊實！

Its a lot like a steam roller, I think.

我覺得它很像蒸汽壓路機。

My next one is the forklift.

我要講的下一個是叉車。

They lift and move heavy items over short distances and in tighter spaces.

它們在較小的空間里，短距離抬起和搬運重物。

Mom: So many of them!

媽媽：這么多種！

It is amazing that you can tell me about each of them.
