西雙版納地處熱帶北部邊緣，屬熱帶季雨林氣候。截至2017年，西雙版納轄1個縣級市、2個縣，2017年，西雙版納常住總人口118.0萬人，其中少數民族人口77.87萬人，傣族是主體民族，世居著13種民族。2017年，西雙版納生產總值393.8437億元，城鎮常住居民人均可支配收入27201元，農村常住居民人均可支配收入12043元。

西雙版納橫跨唐古拉－昌都－蘭坪－思茅和貢山－騰沖兩個褶皺系，以瀾滄江斷裂為分界線。前者為半坡復背斜和德化復向斜，后者占有臨滄－勐海褶皺系東南端。

Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture is one of the eight autonomous prefectures in Yunnan Province, with Jinghong as its capital. Located in the southernmost part of Yunnan Province, it is located at about 21°10 N and between 99°55 E and 101°50 E. It is a tropical humid area south of the Tropic of Cancer and is connected with Jiangcheng County and Pu er City from east to west. It is adjacent to Lancang County in the northwest, connected with mountains and rivers of Laos and Myanmar in the southeast, south and southwest respectively, and adjacent to Thailand and Vietnam. The border line is as long as 966.3 kilometers, which is about 1/4 of the total length of the border line of Yunnan Province, with an area of 19,582.45 square kilometers.

Xishuangbanna is located in the northern edge of the tropics and has a tropical monsoon rain forest climate. As of 2017, Xishuangbanna has jurisdiction over one county-level city and two counties. In 2017, the total resident population of Xishuangbanna was 1.180 million, among which the minority population was 778,700. Dai ethnic group is the main ethnic group, living in 13 ethnic groups. In 2017, Xishuangbannas GDP reached 39.38437 billion yuan, with the per capita disposable income of 27,201 yuan for urban residents and 12,043 yuan for rural residents.

Xishuangbanna spans two fold systems, Tanggula-Qamdu-Lanping-Simao and Gongshan-Tengchong, with the Lancang River Fault as the dividing line. The former is Banpo syncline and Dehua syncline, while the latter occupies the southeast end of Lincang-Menghai fold system.
