非限定性定語從句是許多學生難以搞清楚的地方，有的同學甚至得出“看到逗號就填which”這樣錯誤的結論。如果我們把定語這個句子成分弄清楚，那么非限定性定語從句也就能迎刃而解。定語：對句中的名詞或代詞起修飾或限定作用，由名詞、形容詞、非限定動詞、短語或從句（定語從句）來充當。單個的詞作定語一般置于被修飾的詞的前面，短語和句子作定語往往置于被修飾的詞的后面。比如名詞school,可以帶修飾性定語構成短語a beautiful shool，修飾性定語即非限定性定語，如果把這個修飾性定語變成定語從句就是非限定性定語從句：a school, which is beautiful。如果school前帶的是限定性定語比如，your school那么變成定語從句就是限定性定語從句：the school that/which you are studying in或the school where you are studying。
