Put the Glass Down
放下手中的杯子
Professor began his class by holding up a glass with some water in it. He held it up for all to see and asked the students, "How much do you think this glass weighs?"
教授拿起一個裝著水的杯子開始了他的課。他舉起杯子讓所有在座的學生看,然后問他們:“你們認為這個杯子有多重?”
50g!..."100g!"..."125g!"..the students answered.
“50克!”“100克!”“125克!”…學生紛紛答道。
"I really dont know unless I weigh it," said the professor, "but, my question is: What would happen if I held it up like this for a few minutes?"
“除非我稱一下,否則我真不知道它有多重。”教授說但我的問題是:如果我這樣拿著杯子幾分鐘,結果會怎樣?”
"Nothing." The students said.
“不會怎么樣。”學生回答。
"OK. What would happen if I held it up like this for an hour?" the professor asked.
“那好。如果像這樣拿著杯子,持續一個小時,又會怎樣?”教授再次發問。
"Your arm would begin to ache," said one of the students.
“您的胳膊會有點酸痛。”一名學生回答。
"Youre right. Now what would happen if I held it for a day?"
“說得對。如果我像這樣拿著杯子一整天會怎樣呢?”
"Your arm could go numb, you might have severe muscle stress and paralysis and have to go to hospital for sure!" Ventured another student. All the students laughed.
“那您的胳膊肯定會變得麻木,說不定肌肉會嚴重緊張而麻痹,到時肯定得去醫院。”另一名學生大膽說道。所有學生都大笑起來。
"Very good! But during all this, did the weight of the glass change? " asked the professor.
“很好。但在這期間,杯子的重量發生變化了嗎?”教授問道。
No was the answer.
答案是“沒有”。
"Then what caused the arm ache and the muscle stress?"
“那是什么導致胳膊酸痛、肌肉緊張的呢?”
The students were puzzled.
學生們滿是詫異。
"What should I do now to come out of pain?" asked the professor again.
“如果現在我想不再癢痛,我該怎么做?”教授再次問道。
"Put the glass down!" said one of the students.
“把杯子放下。”其中一名學生回答。
"Exactly!" said the professor.
“正是。”教授說道。
"Lifes problems are something like this. Hold it for a few minutes in your head and they seem OK. Think of them for a long time and they begin to ache. Hold it even longer and they begin to paralyze you. You will not be able to do anything."
“生活中的問題就像我手中的杯子,埋在心里幾分鐘沒有關系,如果長時間地想著這些問題,它們就可能使你麻痹,那時你就什么事也干不了了。”
"Its important to think of the challenges or problems in your life. But even more important is to put them down at the end of every day before you go to sleep. That way, you are not stressed, you wake up every day fresh and strong and can handle any issue, any challenge that comes your way!"
“生活中的挑戰和問題固然要重視,但更重要的是在一天結束準備睡覺時要把這些問題都放下。這樣,你才不會感到有壓力,每天早晨醒來才能鮮活有力,并能迎接人生道路上的任何問題和挑戰。”
"So, when you leave office today, remember, friend, to Put the glass down today!"
“所以,朋友,今天當你離開辦公室的時候,要記得‘放下手中的杯子!’”
