中學英語詞匯基本上都是英語中的常用詞或者說是高頻詞。高考考綱收錄了大約3500單詞。這些詞匯中，有些詞有多種詞性，且不同詞性的讀音不一樣，對中國學生來說，雖然不見得會寫錯，但卻非常容易混淆它們的讀音。

讀音混淆了有什么后果？一般來說，這種情況大概就像我們平時讀錯或說錯字的結果一樣。在特定語境中出現，聽話的人一般都不會解讀錯誤。不過，這多少反映了個人語言基本功的問題。

下面成對列舉的單詞基本上都是常用詞，且其讀音比較容易混淆，共計680條，值得平時在學習中注意。由于有同形異音詞，所以在這種情況下標記了詞性，以幫助判斷發音。例如record作為名詞和動詞的發音就不一樣。當名詞時，其重音在第一個音節上；當動詞時，其重音在第二個音節上。

由于數量較多，所以分幾篇展示，以便閱讀。下面各組詞之間的“|”符號是分隔符。兩個分隔符之間的詞在發音上容易被混淆。
